WikiMe App Reviews

It needs both postal code and country code to work with a designated location

I had a hell of a time getting this to work till I realized that the search screen that asks for the postal or zip code also needs the country code as well. Do not leave it blank. Once I inserted us in the country code, as well as the five digit zip code it worked fine. Ideally the developer would have error trapped the blank country code and provided a drop list of the two character ISO country codes, but this is a modest application for only 99 cents. The app remembers the last postal code and stores it in settings. As Koen Pijenburg put it inhis email back to me: "If you entered your postal code at some point, this gets saved in the settings screen, for your convinience. You have to clear the postal code and country code to let it search on your current location." I would like to thank the company for getting back to me so promptly when I wrote of my problems.

Quite good. Just a few tweaks and it could be a 5-star App!

A very clever idea that is implemented well overall. Three thoughts to take this from 3 stars to 5: 1. In the settings, the radius search is in kilometers. It would be nice to have the option to set it to miles. 2. Some freezing (getting stuck on the spinning icon, or the program just quitting). Its not enough to be especially frustrating, but it is a hassle. 3. The searches bring up all nearby cities. If Im in the middle of an urban sprawl, this comprises the majority of results. It would be great if there were a toggle to turn on/off cities and towns showing up in the results.

Needs refining

Great concept, but the reading is a bit painful. I would render the wiki text in a mobile friendly format so you dont have to zoom in to read. Also the app lags a lot.

Not worth 99 cents

i was unhappy with this software because it links to wikipedia subjects in a normal viewing format and not in a mobile format. it recommends viewing in a mobile format but does not link you there. if it did lauch the subjects in a format you can easily read on my itouch it would have been much better.

Save you 0.99 for a candy bar.

It loads normal wiki pages. Not a compacted mobile version.

HearPlanet much better plus tons more

Ive been playing with HearPlanet and it is way better for this type of searching. Formatted for iPhone plus audio.

Great idea, but missing substance

Seems this app is tuned mostly to pull Wiki articles for cities only. I just recently took a multi-state trip, and had hopes of using it to read about nearby historic interests as well as other items besides just about the city I was in. I know there is so much more on Wikipedia; I just dont understand why the app does not retrieve more results...?

offline mode please

I just played with this app in Florence, Italy and think it has a lot of potential if offline was an option for saving entries for the road where there could be no network.

Too slow

Even on wifi, it just sits and spins

Map function is broken

This map based programs map doesnt work, on Wifi the map shows a poorly formatted 404 page. Money back please.

Does not work. ABANDONED?

Does not function. Maybe abandoned by developer? Maybe incompatible with iOS 7? Not updated in 4 years, so, no matter the cause of the failure, the developer obviously does not care about the app. Too bad.
